Ember Covenant
Ember Covenant is a proper RPG that respects the small screen. Battles are turn-based and readable, with clear icons and a timeline that shows who acts next, so you never feel lost mid-fight. The writing carries it — companions have distinct voices, and the choices you make actually bend the story in small, satisfying ways.
Combat has more texture than it first appears. Elemental weaknesses, positioning, and a stamina system that rewards patience all add up to fights that feel like puzzles rather than button-mashing. The difficulty curve is fair, with an optional harder mode for people who want to sweat.
We played in short bursts and the autosave never let us down. The art style is painterly and holds up on bigger phones. If you miss meaty RPGs that don't drown you in menus, Ember Covenant is a lovely surprise.
